Blessed Opportunities!

Have you ever been awakened by God in the middle of the night? Becoming fully conscious, did you sense that you needed to pray for someone? Or have you been awakened and have no idea why you are wide awake and cannot go back to sleep?

The latter happened to me. In the middle of the darkness of the room, I suddenly became wide-awake. I have to admit I got a little frustrated because my sleep was interrupted. When I looked at the clock and it was 3:41 a.m. Talking to God about why I was wide-awake was not one of my first thoughts; instead, they were how much time I had before the alarm clock would go off; how many hours of sleep I would be missing, and what was on my schedule later that day.

After realizing sleep was not forthcoming, I finally started talking to God. Immediately I felt compelled to pray for a friend’s autistic son. He was lifted up to the throne of our King, asking for intervention and safety. I do not remember how long I was praying because the Holy Spirit obligated me.

Two days later when I met my friend, I told her the date and time I was awakened to pray for her son. She said on that night, her son had an allergic reaction to a new medication he was taking. He began to have difficulty breathing and she took him to the emergency room.

I am honored at the promptings to pray anytime the Master asks. I am better at responding, especially in the middle of the night because someone needs God’s help.

It is not always clear why any of us need to pray for others or what the prayer results will be. I do believe prayers are powerful and answered. God will often call His servants to pray at night because that might be the only time we are quiet enough to hear His voice.

Now when God wakes me up in the middle of the night, I do not see it as an interruption of sleep. I view it as an opportunity to ask Him who or what to pray for. I believe one day I will see the results of the quiet prayers that were uttered in the darkness.

I now view interruptions as Blessed Opportunities for ministry.

If you were awakened by God in the middle of the night, what did He ask of you?
